In politics I've spent most of my time so far in the State Legislature. In the 2017 and 2021 session I was in the House and in 2023 and 2025 I was in the Senate. During those sessions I've done my best to move the needle on Liberty, especially in entrepreneurship. In 2021 the Legislature did a good job stripping executive powers during emergencies like covid, and giving power back to individuals to make their own decisions around vaccines. This doesn't directly related to the PSC but does give you insight into my political philosophies. Individual rights and freedoms are greater than the collective. I won't back down from protecting individuals.
Nothing comes free, but when a monopoly provides an essential resource, the Public Service Commission has a duty to balance rates with company stability. Utility companies deserve to get paid fairly and consumers deserve a fair price. The law tasks the PSC with adjudicating rate cases and making prudent decisions about which assets and operating costs belong in the rate base. Ensuring a solvent utility and affordable utilities is the balance I'll always seek as a decision-maker.
The PSC's job is to decide on rate cases, but the Legislature has a big role in policy making around energy. If elected to the PSC I'll make sure to maintain a relationship with policy makers to work together for all Montanans.
